June 5th: Strange Fruit

Within the hope of the present moment inspired by the moral resistance to racial violence spreading across America and the world, let us make room for mourning the legacy of suffering that this movement is trying to overcome: the brutal killings by police of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others. And through this Friday's musical selection, let us remember the more than 4000 black men and women that have been lynched in the last century and a half alone since black people were first uprooted from their homes and brought here as slaves beginning in 1619. Here we have one of the greatest protest songs ever written, requiring a true inner surrender to the truth of suffering and tragedy.
